Our Seniors4Seniors scheme aims to find a senior dog a loving home for their twilight years with a senior adopter. Senior dogs are often overlooked, and we would like to change that. If you are an applicant who is perhaps not as mobile or energetic as you once were, if your lifestyle doesn’t suit a young, active dog, but you can offer companionship, a comfortable sofa and a secure garden, then please get in touch.
Our senior dogs will not demand much. They will not expect to walk for miles every day, they will be happy to mooch in the garden and enjoy a walk around the block, sniffing as they go. Of course, they may also enjoy the odd trip to the pub or out for a doggy ice cream, but as long as you offer them comfort and warmth in their older age, they will repay your kindness with companionship and gentle requests for fuss.
At Stray2Me we recognise that older dogs may need medications and supplements to support them as they age, and we also recognise that some senior adopters will be on a fixed income, so we only ask for a donation to cover their transport to the UK and the mandatory Brucella canis test.
Our senior dogs will be:
Fully vaccinated
Neutered / spayed unless against veterinary advice
Microchipped
Health tested for Heartworm, Anaplasma, Erlichia, Lyme, Babesia and Guardia
Brucella canis negative (mandatory) In addition our senior dogs will also receive:
A dental – descale / teeth extraction prior to travel
Donation: We ask for a reduced donation of £380 for a senior dog, to cover the cost of transport to the UK and the mandatory Brucella canis test from APHA. Obviously, if you wish to donate more, then you are more than welcome to do so. Every penny donated is used for the benefit of the dogs that remain in our care. Senior dogs: Please see the dedicated Seniors4Seniors section on our website to see the dogs available under this scheme. Of course, if you are not a senior, but you would like to adopt one of our senior dogs, then we would be more than happy to hear from you.
As a charity run entirely by volunteers, we are fully committed to finding the best homes and humans for our Strays. We offer life long rescue back up (RBU).
RBU means you can get support and advice throughout your whole adoption experience, and for the lifetime of your Stray and, if for any reason the adoption fails, the dog or cat will be taken back by the rescue and rehomed elsewhere. We do not currently have our own kennels or catteries in the UK, so we rely on our network of fosters and volunteers. Sometimes we have to find boarding kennel spaces should a dog need moving due to a change of circumstances, and there are no foster homes available.
The first step is to watch the video about our adoption process. For further information, please read our FAQ, or if you are happy to proceed, the next step is to complete an application form by following the link below. Once your application form has been submitted it will generate an automated response. One of our volunteers will also email you. Please check your spam in case our email goes in there!
Please watch the video explaining the adoption process, followed by the video explaining about the transport process.
We look forward to hearing from you.
